☮️ 7 years ago when my friend Ryan told me to get a ukelele I have to admit I resisted the idea a little because I didnt feel you could do much with only 4 strings 🤦‍♂️
.
One day my cousin gave me a gift certificate to guitar center so Ryan and i went in hopes of getting a new guitar. I got there and quickly realized the gift certificate wasnt going to cover the price tag of that #martinguitar I had my eyes set on. It was then when Ryan looked at me and said why dont you get a uke.....
.
the gift certificate was enough to cover the price of a nice concert uke and there was even a little left over to get a chords book that told stories of how George Harrison used to drive round with a car full of ukes and how it became his favorite instrument. so i thought i would give it a shot and try to learn a few chords. who would have know it has practically become a part of my identity.
.
it is just too easy to travel with I completely neglected my guitar for a few years and only wanted to jam on the uke. I would take it with me wherever, looking for inspiration around any corner, trying to come up with new rhythms and melodies. Funny to think how so many friends now use the nickname ukelele to refer to me these days, all stemming from those times when I didnt let it out of my sight.
.
This ukelele was given to me by our close friend Franky for our wedding present and on it are engraved the words peace in many different languages. I heard Jake Shambuko say once that if everyone played the ukelele there would be no more war and I completely agree, its an instrument of peace. ☮️
